A 20-year Hail Mary Finally Falls Incomplete

Back when I first started college I knew this one girl who was actively interested in me. Unfortunately this rattled me a bit, as my bad luck in dating before hadn't prepared me for this possibility; by the time I got my act together, she had moved on, although we remained close friends for the three years we were in college together.

After our junior year she transferred to another college, and I lost contact with her. But I never stopped thinking of her, and what could have been. Problem was, she was a difficult person to track down, even after the internet came along. Her maiden name was a common one, and since she didn't graduate from my college, she was not in the alumni registry there. And so the years continued to pile on.

Then recently (last month, in fact), I finally managed to locate her. While I was happy that I had made contact with her again, it was mixed with some depression. While she did eventually marry, it happened over 10 years after we last had contact. All that time wasted, especially since I worked for an airline for a few years, and could have been visiting her on a regular basis then.

But alas, such is my luck, and a faint hope finally goes out. I still intend to keep in contact with her, and who knows, one day we will finally meet again. But for now, things go on, with one less possibility down the road.
